More Than a Fishing Club

The Seisia Fishing Club is a volunteer-run, community-focused association dedicated to the enjoyment, promotion, and protection of fishing as a sport. The club encourages responsible fishing practices, education in environmental care, and the sustainable management of local fisheries.
Beyond fishing, it serves as a lively social hub, hosting regular events, fundraisers, and gatherings that bring the community together. Proudly, the Seisia Fishing Club holds a Community Other Licence, allowing members and guests to enjoy a drink with its signature “beer and burgers” in a welcoming atmosphere.
Our History

The Seisia Fishing Club began as an annual fishing competition in 1989 and a community social gathering and fundraising event. The competition continued into the 1990s with different organisers and recipients for funds raised including works to the campground and wharf area.
With the growth and popularity of the event, public liability and fisheries regulations became a necessity and so in 1999 a committee was appointed to incorporate the club. The club became incorporated as the Seisia Fishing Association (A Charity) in May 2001. The objectives of the Association are the enjoyment, promotion, protection and recreational aspects of fishing as a sport; to educate members in the protection and management of the environment and fisheries stock for the future; and to raise funds to assist the community in advancing the children of the community in whatever they may excel in.
In 2001 when Seisia Council was in the process of building an ablution block near the sports field. The Seisia Fishing Association met with Council to propose that they acquire funding to build a clubhouse and ablution block. The Association raised funding, and the clubhouse and ablution block was built and opened in March 2004.
The Fishing Club began trading in July 2004 and through the work of the committee members and volunteers a very successful club was built. Funds were raised to fit out the club and profits used to extend the club building with a covered verandah. Funds were also donated to the Royal Flying Doctors and local institutions; assist community members in difficulties such as travel for a child needing specialist care; the replacement of vital equipment for a member; donations of a phonic ear to the school to assist children to hear the teacher by way of amplification. This reflects the Associations status as a registered Charity.
Numerous club events have been held since its beginning such as karaoke, exercise/fitness nights, Saturday afternoon markets, live Bands and State of Origin. The signature menu is ‘beer and burgers’ – the best in th NPA. Patronage has been, including tourists, up to 150 people per night. All BBQ and bar work is done by volunteers.
Fishing competitions are held throughout the year. Categories were as per a leader board with boat and wharf categories (so people do not need a boat). An invitational competition was open to the public on future weekends.
The Seisia Fishing Association (Club) is a central part of the Seisia community and represents community involvement and fundraising to support all families and local organisations. It is proudly, one of the few volunteer-run clubs in Australia.
The Sesia Fishing Association holds a Community Other Licence.
